Hydration and Your Brain



💧Water is life! Proper hydration is KEY for all the body systems, but especially the nervous system. Your brain is bathed in cerebrospinal fluid, which allows the central nervous system to maintain normal blood flow, facilitates communication between neurons, keeps the brain safe from mechanical stress due to impacts to the head and neck, and removes metabolic waste products. If you're dehydrated, the CSF cannot be adequately produced (you make .5-1 liter per day on average!) or circulated optimally. If you want to get more individualized than the standard 8 8oz glasses recommendation, your body needs to take in 2/3rds of your body weight in pounds in fluid ounces per day. (So if you weigh 100lbs, you would need to be drinking about 66oz of water per day.) In the office, we've got spring water available on tap, so remember to drink up after your adjustments! 🌊⁣
